BCO Awards 2026
THE JUDGES
Setting new industry
benchmarks of excellence
S
ince 1992, the BCO
Awards have been
striving to raise
standards across the industry
by rewarding the “best
of the best” in workspace
development.
This can only happen
through a rigorous judging
process. Care, scrutiny and
collective judgment are
applied to every project.
The BCO Awards are unique
in the industry in that both
the Regional and National
judging panels visit every
shortlisted project in person.
The judging panels
bring together experienced
professionals from different
disciplines across the
commercial property industry,
ensuring that projects are
considered from a range of
perspectives.
Judges serve for up to three
years, with one or two new
members joining the panel
each year. This ensures that
decades of experience are
mixed with new ideas and
alternative thinking. It also
means no one gets jaded – or
exhausted – because this is a
tough job and is being carried
out alongside exacting day jobs.
The judges know what they
are looking for: excellence
viewed holistically, including
how workplaces support
people and organisations,
respond to changing needs,
address sustainability
and contribute to their
surroundings.
They also take a long-term
view. Projects aren’t judged
simply on how they perform
at one moment, but on their
likely value, adaptability and
effectiveness over their lifetime.
This process requires serious
commitment. The judges
give a considerable amount
of their time and expertise to
reviewing submissions, visiting
projects, discussing and
assessing them collectively.
The rigour and depth
of the judging process is a
fundamental part of what
makes a BCO Award so highly
sought after and so highly
regarded within the industry.
It must be earned, not won.
The entry process for a
BCO Award is reassuringly
strenuous. In return, every
entrant can be secure in the
knowledge that their efforts
will be given the attention
they merit.
Thank you to all the
Regional and National judges
whose dedication makes this
possible, ensuring that BCO
Award winners have set new
benchmarks of excellence
which the whole industry can
learn from.
