O
ffering 133,000 sq ft of
lab and office space at
the heart of a growing
life sciences ecosystem, No.1
BHIC is a truly pioneering
venture for its location.
As the first building and
first phase to complete in
the 10-year masterplan for
the Birmingham Health
Innovation Campus, it sets
a new UK benchmark for
integrated commercial,
clinical and academic
environments. The judges
recognised its crucial role
bco.org.uk
as the first step in allowing
Birmingham to take its place
as a key life sciences hub
nationally.
Just a five-minute walk
from the Queen Elizabeth
Hospital and the University
of Birmingham in Selly Oak,
the aim of this University of
Birmingham and Bruntwood
SciTech development is
to drive innovation and
collaboration. Careful
thought has been put into
its impressive double-height
event space, communal café
and the variety of laboratory,
flexible office and training
spaces.
The space is pitched at
innovative medtech and digital
health businesses and can be
provided fully fitted or can
be designed by the tenant to
meet their individual business
needs. Allied with its strong
approach to sustainability, this
offer is clearly resonating with
businesses.
Indeed, the judges were
impressed by the building’s
commercial success, with
most spaces let at the time
of their visit. No.1 BHIC
already houses the University
of Birmingham’s Precision
Health Technologies
Accelerator and Centre for
Anatomy, Surgical and Clinical
Skills, anchoring the campus
as a hub for translational
health innovation.
The judges concluded that
No.1 BHIC “combined all the
key ingredients needed to
create a nationally significant
destination for the life
sciences sector”.
