for occupiers, complemented
by a free-to-use padel
court and standalone gym.
Designed by Chapman
Taylor for Capital London,
the refurbishment project
demonstrates the crucial role
a well-designed workplace can
play in fostering collaboration
and social interaction and
promoting healthy lifestyles.
This is a building which goes
beyond the usual in its drive to
create an engaging, wellnessfocused, modern workplace
that helps businesses attract
and retain employees. The
refurbishment also builds
on the courtyard concept
at the adjacent 1 Arlington
Investment / Property Co
PAC 10
Square, with shared amenities
including the Treehouse
Café strengthening the wider
campus-style environment.
Materials were chosen to
complement the existing
buff brick façade, while bold
patterns and expressive shapes
give the space a more playful
character. The enhancement
and retaining of the existing
building also significantly
reduced embodied carbon
compared with a conventional
redevelopment, creating an
environmentally responsible
destination.
The judges recognised this
project’s alignment with the
principles championed by
the BCO – putting wellbeing,
collaboration, sustainability
and workplace quality at its
heart – noting that “targeted
design interventions, even at a
relatively small scale, can have
a big impact and transform
underutilised common areas
within an existing building”.
They concluded: “The
amenities significantly
improve the tenant experience
while fostering community
and promoting wellbeing
within the workplace. What
made this a compelling entry
is the sense of community
this creates, achieved within a
modest footprint.”
