U
ntil this year, the
team now based on
the sixth floor of
10 Brindleyplace worked out
of Wythall, a 250,000 sq ft
purpose-built campus near
the M42. That changed when
Phoenix Group sold the site
to private investor Cilldara
Group, moving its Standard
Life brand into a 2,500 sq ft
city-centre hub, a footprint
reduction of more than 90%.
The building’s strong
environmental and
sustainability credentials
were central to the decision.
Data made the smaller
footprint work. Insights from
occupancy trends, booking
systems and post-Covid
behavioural patterns shaped a
floorplate that supports 1,250
colleagues across 250 desks,
enabled by an intelligent
hybrid strategy and real-time
utilisation technology.
The result blends social
hubs, touchdown spaces and
quiet zones with a generous
new terrace, supported by a
sensory map and biophilic
elements throughout. Wythall
has a future too. The 40-acre

for potential residential-led
redevelopment, a second life
for the site.
Judges were impressed
by a scheme built around
“modern hybrid working,
operational efficiency and
employee experience”, noting
that despite “the dramatic
reduction in footprint, the new
workplace delivers a vibrant,
people-focused environment
designed around collaboration,
flexibility and wellbeing.”
Inclusivity and
sustainability underpin the
scheme, with 100% height
adjustable desks, a sensory
map, biophilic elements and
extensive reuse of furniture
and Cat A systems to reduce
embodied carbon.
Staff feedback has been
overwhelmingly positive,
reflecting renewed energy,
pride and cultural cohesion.
The judges praised the
scheme’s approach for
delivering “a forward-looking,
high-performance workplace
that embodies the next
chapter of Standard Life’s
identity”.
