he judges called 60
London Wall “an elegant
yet understated fit out,
achieving a refined aesthetic
without tipping into opulence”.
At its new London
headquarters, Rabobank
shares its best view with
everyone, not just senior staff.
The multi-use social café
overlooking Finsbury Circus
has become the vibrant heart
of the workplace for the Dutch
multinational banking and
financial services company
and a daily gathering point for
staff.
The client area was just as
carefully considered in this
Sheppard Robson-designed
fit out, with the judges calling
it “a warm and professional

welcome that reflects the firm’s
values”. Overhead, the acoustic
spray absorbs sound rather
than reflecting it. This quiet
but deliberate answer to the
noise problem that plagues so
many open-plan offices was
delivered by acoustic specialist
Oscar Acoustics.
Sustainability has shaped
nearly every decision too. The
existing ceiling, light fittings,
ductwork, fan coil units
and raised access flooring
were retained wherever
possible, and furniture from
Rabobank’s previous office
was reused extensively. In
total, 17% of materials by
mass were reused and 53%
contained recycled content.
Wellness runs through the
design just as thoroughly, with
a parenting room, a generous
multi-faith space, and a
first-aid room enhanced by a
calming nature-based screen.
The result put Rabobank
among a small group of
UK workplaces certified to
the highest level for both
environmental performance
and occupant wellbeing,
achieving both BREEAM
Outstanding and WELL
Platinum certification.
The judges highlighted
Rabobank’s strength in
this category by concluding
that it “delivers a balanced,
sustainable and humancentred environment,
combining thoughtful design
with operational flexibility
