London headquarters
more than doubles the
previous capacity of this key
site in the heart of the City,
providing 560,000 sq ft of
exemplary workspace directly
above Moorgate Station.
The judges recognised
its success in maximising
the potential of the site,
responding to the movement
of millions of passengers
while also prioritising userfocused and future-ready
workplace design.
Designed by Wilkinson Eyre
with interiors by tp bennett,
this is a landmark example
of integrated architecture,
engineering and interior
design. The “building that is
a bridge” incorporates new
pedestrianised streets, squares,
walkways and an extended
bridge to the Barbican.
Inside, 21 Moorfields
delivers a market-leading
office specification for 5,000
staff and reflects the bank’s
long-term commitment to
London. Atria bring light
deep into the volume; four
massive trading floors give
way to light-filled workspace
and amenity floors; and westfacing terraces on six levels
capitalise on the stepped
section towards the Barbican.
As well as a dedicated food
court and spacious lobby,
there are multiple social hubs

for informal meetings and
coffee breaks.
The judges recognised
21 Moorfields as a “labour
of love” for the client and
design teams for more than
a decade. They concluded:
